The photographer, Mohammad Al Zubair explains… “The high quality of digital photography that has recently emerged has convinced me to develop an old hobby that I have practiced since my childhood. Digital technology offers the photographer many advantages over traditional film photography. It allows him to have better control of his picture from the moment he aims his camera at the subject until the picture is produced on the printer. Modern image editing programs enable the photographer to ensure that the colors and tones of his final image are as close as possible to the original scene, but the accuracy of this process depends on the ability of the photographer himself to successfully use the tools and filters provided by the software.

Extensive journeys throughout my country, the Sultanate of Oman, have given me the opportunity to build a large archive of material based on the rich culture and landscape that are a constant source of reverence, inspiration and wonder. A selection of this work has now been featured in both local and international exhibitions, two publications, and this website. I would like to thank all those who have supported and assisted on this project.”

FYI: Mohammad Al Zubair’s great interest in photography began at the age of eight, when his father gave him his first camera. His first source of income came from photography when he established a small studio in Muscat at the age of fourteen.
Today he uses state of the art digital technology to capture the diverse landscape of Oman. His personal exploration of Oman, focusing on the vast mountain ranges, colourful deserts, lush oasis settlements and dramatic coastlines, has resulted in two major publications and his photographs have been exhibited both locally and internationally.

Along with his immense archive of over 100,000 photographs documenting the Sultanate of Oman, Mohammad Al Zubair enjoys experimental digital artwork, inspired by nature, traditional Omani silver and gold, design, architecture, geometry and color. He admires the artistry of Oman’s artisans, who display inherited skills to create traditional products that reflect the inherent spirit of his beloved country. He uses modern technology to open up new ways of defining his ideas with incredible clarity and precision.
